Aston Martin Valkyrie back on the IMSA track: Attack on the top ranks at Road America
Race report: Progress and ambition with the Valkyrie
The Aston Martin Valkyrie returns to the IMSA race track - and with ambitions. After five consistent top 10 finishes, the prestigious Motul Sportscar Grand Prix of Road America is now entering the hot phase of the 2025 season. The British Hypercar led by Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis wants to attack with further placings - and is relying on collected data, proven strategy and pure speed.
Road America marks the sixth-last race of the season. In the last race at Watkins Glen in particular, the Valkyrie showed strong pace and fought its way up to fifth place before a late safety car phase put the brakes on the race.
Technical milestone: The only real Hypercar Mans hypercar in IMSA
The Valkyrie is the only LMH model to compete in the IMSA GTP class. The car is based on the road-legal version and has a modified 6.5-liter V12 engine with over 1,000 hp, regulated to 680 hp according to the regulations. The carbon chassis was specially adapted for racing - the focus was on performance, aerodynamics and resilience.
The drivers: successful duo with experience
Ross Gunn (GBR) and Roman De Angelis (CAN) make up the driver team. Both are very familiar with Road America - Gunn even won the GTD Pro class there in 2023. For De Angelis, it is his return to the cockpit after a short break at the Canada race. He is highly motivated to finally achieve a tangible result that reflects the potential of the car.
Goal: Consistency and further development
Team Principal Ian James emphasizes: "We are making progress at every race - both in the IMSA and in the WEC. Road America is a strategic circuit. We have tested successfully and are doing everything we can to turn the findings into points."
Outlook for the rest of the season
There are three races left on the calendar. Aston Martin wants to end the season with a respectable success. The Valkyrie has completed every race so far - a reliable indicator of technology and teamwork.
Conclusion
Aston Martin enters the final phase of the IMSA year with Road America. The Valkyrie is much improved and ready for the podium. The upcoming races will show whether the Brits can finally catch up with the favorites.
