With the Yangwang U9, Chinese car giant BYD (Build Your Dreams) is entering the Hypercar- and with a bang. The all-electric Hypercar, which belongs to the luxury subsidiary brand Yangwang, is not only a technology showcase, but also a symbol of China's ambition to be a player in the absolute luxury segment.

Design & appearance: Radically futuristic

The BYD Yangwang U9 immediately catches the eye with its aggressive look:

  • Sharply cut LED light strips

  • Massive air vents

  • Wide body with flowing lines

  • An appearance that clearly positions it as a competitor to European brands such as Rimac, Lotus Evija or the Pininfarina Battista

The car does not look like a "Chinese sports car", but like a global statement.

The technology: top electrical performance

The U9 is based on the new e⁴ platform from BYD, which integrates four electric motors (one per wheel).
Official performance data:

  • Power: approx. 1,100 hp

  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in around 2 seconds

  • Top speed: over 300 km/h

The platform not only allows breathtaking acceleration, but also complex driving dynamics tricks - such as jumping on the spot, which has already caused a viral sensation. Thanks to torque vectoring, the car can be steered extremely precisely on the road.

Range & battery

BYD brings in its comprehensive battery technology, which is considered to be one of the most advanced in the world.
Expected key data:

  • Battery capacity: ~100 kWh

  • Range: approx. 500 km (according to Chinese standard, probably slightly less according to WLTP)

  • 800-volt technology: fast charging capability and high efficiency

Exclusivity & price

The Yangwang U9 will initially only be available in China, with a planned price of around 140,000-150,000 euros. This makes it significantly cheaper than Western Hypercar- and shows that BYD also wants to attack the luxury sector with a strong price-performance ratio.

The fact that BYD is launching an electric Hypercar with the Yangwang U9 is more than just a prestige project:
It is a sign that Chinese manufacturers are not only focusing on mass, but also on absolute excellence in terms of technology and brand strategy. The U9 is intended as an image carrier for the brand - and perhaps the first harbinger that similar vehicles will soon be appearing on Western markets.

Conclusion: A Hypercar that makes the world sit up and take notice

With the Yangwang U9, BYD shows that hypercars from China are not only real, but serious. The combination of extreme performance, futuristic design and competitive price makes the U9 one of the most exciting electric hypercars of the season.
