Maserati MCXtrema celebrates 20 years of the MC12 legend at the 24 Hours of Spa
Sant'Agata Bolognese/Spa-Francorchamps, June 26, 2025 - Maserati is making an emotional statement at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa 2025: with the exclusive MCXtrema, the Italian luxury car manufacturer is honoring the legendary MC12 racing car and its first triumph in the endurance classic exactly 20 years ago.
As the official "leading car" of the event, the MCXtrema not only drives up front, but also wears a special blue and black livery reminiscent of the colors of the former Vitaphone racing team. The appearance is crowned by an oversized Trident logo on the hood and a typographic design on the doors and flanks that quotes famous model names, drivers and racetracks from Maserati's history.
MC12 heritage lives on - with style and performance
The homage is more than just for show: in 2005, Maserati won the 24-hour race in Spa for the first time with the MC12. A milestone that the team underpinned with further victories in 2006 and 2008. Now the MCXtrema - Maserati's radical Hypercar hypercar - is leading the traditional parade from the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps to the city center with world champion Andrea Bertolini at the wheel. Thousands of fans cheered at the roadside.
Maserati dominates the stage - also in GT2 racing
In parallel to the spectacle on public roads, Maserati is also returning to motorsport itself: the Trident will compete in the GT2 European Series 2025 with two MC20 GT2 cars. Starting number 7 will be driven by the DINAMIC Motorsport team with Pampanini/Calamia (Pro-Am), as well as the car with starting number 1 from LP Racing and driver Philippe Prette (Am class).
But that's not all: Maserati is also providing all the official cars for the GT World Challenge weekend, including the safety car, medical car and leading car. The fleet includes the MC20, the Grecale models (Trofeo with V6 and Folgore all-electric) and the new GT2 Stradale.
Towards 100 years of motorsport history
The celebratory appearance in Spa is another milestone on the road to Maserati's 100th motorsport anniversary in 2026. The first Trident car, the Tipo 26, won its class at the Targa Florio back in 1926. Now the racing fever is returning - with a self-confident commitment to the brand's performance DNA.
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, explains:
"With the MCXtrema, we are not only celebrating a historic victory, but also the unbroken innovative spirit of our brand. This is more than a memory - this is the future."
