Papenburg, Germany (September 20, 2025) – YANGWANG, the luxury sub-brand of BYD, has redefined the limits of performance by setting a new world production car speed record with its U9 Xtreme (U9X) hypercar. Achieving an astonishing 308.4 mph (496.22 km/h) at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track, the U9X is now officially the fastest production car in the world – and it’s fully electric.

Record-Breaking Performance

On September 14, 2025, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme surpassed not only its own EV benchmark but also the previous record of 304.48 mph held by a petrol-powered hypercar. With this feat, YANGWANG establishes a new milestone in automotive history, proving that the future of ultimate speed lies in sustainable, zero-emission technology.

The record run was driven by Marc Basseng, a German track specialist and endurance racer. He praised the hypercar’s smoothness and stability:

“This record was only possible because the U9 Xtreme has incredible performance. With no load changes from combustion, I could focus entirely on the track. It shows what only electric motors can achieve.”

Technical Highlights of the U9 Xtreme

Originally unveiled as the U9 Track/Special Edition, the production-ready U9 Xtreme incorporates several key advancements:

  • Four ultra-high-speed electric motors, spinning up to 30,000 rpm and producing over 3,000 PS

  • 1200V ultra-high-voltage architecture (compared with 800V standard systems)

  • BYD Blade Battery with a 30C discharge rate for extreme performance

  • DiSus-X active suspension, tuned to withstand the stresses of high-speed track driving

  • Track-level semi-slick tires for maximum grip at record-breaking speeds
